from dream to design
Reflect Architecture is a dream conceived at the age of 6 years old, by it’s principle architect and founder, Derek Wiggins. Derek always wanted to be an architect, even if he didn’t fully understand what that meant. His parents kept elementary school assignments that asked, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” To which Derek always wrote, often misspelled, “an architect”.
At the age of 12 Derek acquired an extra copy of AutoCAD from a neighbor architect and family friend. Spending hours playing in the program he became self taught on how to use the program and would go on to take drafting class from Dixie College while still enrolled as a junior in high school. As soon as he turned 16 he began working as a draftsman where he learned to utilize CAD in a practical setting. Graduated from Dixie College with an associates of arts in drafting at the same time he graduated from high school, all while working in the architecture industry as a draftsman.
Continued his education at Dixie College, earning a bachelors degree after which he transferred to Florida A&M, going on to receive his masters degree. Upon graduation Derek received the AIA Henry Adams medal, a medal awarded each year to one student of the graduating class for general excellence in architecture. During the entirety of his education Derek worked full time for an architecture firm.
It cannot be understated the impact and support Derek received from his loving wife, who was his biggest advocate to peruse his dream of becoming an architect. Without her constant support and continued encouragement this realized dream would still be just a dream.
Upon competition of his formal education Derek continued working full time, and went on to get licensed as a professional architect and eventually going on to open his own firm, Reflect Architecture.
Today Reflect Architecture continues to grow, being lead by Derek with over 20 years of experience in the industry, teaching new future architects and draftsman the fundamentals of drafting, design and architecture theory. All while providing clients with quality projects that are innovative and purpose driven.
Based primarily in Utah and Arizona, Reflect Architecture is able to provide services in almost any state within the United States.
When not practicing architecture Derek can be found playing pickleball, golf or at home with his family and friends enjoying board games and video games.
